SEEN on Campus Constitution

Who are we?
SEEN on Campus is a network for University and Higher Education employees who are committed to promoting sex equality and equity between women and men in Universities and Higher Education organisations within the United Kingdom.
We have no political, ideological, religious or organisational affiliation.
Membership is open to employees from Universities and Higher Education organisations in the UK who share our aims and guiding principles. There is an application process to become a member and all members must agree to uphold the Member Rules.
A mailing list is available for anyone who would like to receive occasional emails with updates, resources and opportunities to take action.
Our aims
The aims of SEEN on Campus are to:
- promote sex equality and equity between women and men so that all can thrive at work and fulfill their potential;
- highlight unlawful sex discrimination within Universities and Higher Education organisations;
- uphold sex-based rights;
- uphold the rights of same-sex attracted people;
- tackle stereotypes about women and men; and
- support staff to set up networks within their organisations or regional area.
We recognise that ensuring sex equality and equity sometimes requires treating women and men differently, according to their rights and needs.

Our four guiding principles
- We are committed to supporting University and Higher Education employees to uphold the sex-based rights which support women and men’s rights and needs at work, including the protected characteristics of sex, pregnancy and maternity and sexual orientation set out in the Equality Act 2010; and ensuring that these rights are balanced against other rights, where lawful and necessary.
- We are committed to helping University and Higher Education employees feel confident to exercise their rights under the European Convention of Human Rights to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, freedom of expression and freedom of assembly and association, provided they manifest their rights lawfully and respectfully.
- We are committed to the protected belief (covered by the protected characteristic of religion and belief in the Equality Act 2010) that biological sex is binary and immutable, that biological sex matters for both women and men in our everyday lives including for our rights and needs in the workplace, and that biological sex must not be conflated with the concepts of gender or gender identity. University and Higher Education staff who hold this protected belief must not be marginalised, disadvantaged or discriminated against.
- We are committed to helping Universities and Higher Education organisations ‘foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not’, by encouraging a diversity of voices and open and respectful dialogue and tolerance between those with differing beliefs and experiences.
